The mother of Madeleine McCann was close to tears yesterday as she dismissed suggestions that her daughter was killed in her bedroom on the night that she disappeared from the family’s holiday apartment.

Kate McCann and her husband, Gerry, are expected to be interviewed again by detectives after reports that blood had been found in their daughter’s bedroom and evidence that it had contained a body.

The focus of the police investigation has shifted to the couple and the British friends who were with them in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz.

Interesting stuff, but can you clean up the formatting some? Thanks!

Mrs McCann, 38, said: “Last week when we met with the police they said, ‘We are looking for a living child’. And they’ve said that a lot.”

The couple refused to discuss reports that a speck of blood had been found by a British sniffer dog in the bedroom where Madeleine was sleeping, although Mrs McCann was visibly upset when questioned. The blood sample will be sent for DNA analysis to see if it matches the girl or a kidnapper. However, it may be too small to carry out the test.

an interesetigf blog post from JUNE... --

seems alot of people were already thinking maybe the rents were guilty...

Linda on June 7th, 2007

I don't know where Kate McCann gets off as saying at a German press
conference that her and her husband were being responsible by
"checking on the children regularly and that only a very small
minority of people think they were irresponsible". She is either
seriously deluded or hasn't been taking notice of people's opinions
from all over the world that have been widely broadcast over the
internet during the last month ! If a poll was taken I'm sure she
would find that it is definitely not a "minority of people" as she
called it, but quite the opposite! These parents have to stop making
out how so called "responsible" they were by checking on their
children (who, I might add, should never have been left alone in the
first place to have had to have been checked on) and face the cold
hard facts once and for all that THEY are totally at fault in this
situation and stop making ludicrous statements on how responsible they
were! As a parent it makes my blood boil when I look at my children
asleep in their beds and to wonder how another parent could willingly
leave their toddlers alone in a strange place at night, only to check
in on them every so often and then have the gall to state to the world
how responsible they are ! We're not talking about turning your back
for a couple of minutes and having an accident happen to a young
child…..we're talking about planning an evening out and not organising
for the proper care for the most precious things in your life…….your
three babies. These parents need to be held accountable once and for
all, possibly by the law, and stop telling the world that there's only
a minority that feel this way. Who are they trying to kid? And for
those of you who don't think that would be fair….try asking little
Maddy how fair it is what has happened to her.

I agree with your views danbloom and linda. I have some strange feelings too about how well they seem to be coping, too well indeed. Now especially the mum gets a bit on my nerves and makes me question, she is an educated person, a doctor, but especially the first times she spoke on tv she sounded so inarticulate and cold, manufactured, and I don't mean inarticulate as when you are upset. I mean the words she used, and still uses sound so inadequate to the circumstances. She just doesn't sound like a normal parent who is being through the ordeal of loosing her child in such strange and painful circumstances. I do also share the views regarding their claiming on 'how responsible they were' for checking on their children who knows how often. I mean, you couldn't expect less considering they were leaving them alone in a foreign country, being not even teenagers but toddlers!! The problem is that we, as a society, are becoming increasingly tolerant and sympathetic with things that we should not, because that is precisely leading us to have as increasingly unhappy and neglected children in the uk (check the latest unicef report on children's quality of life which ranked british children as the unhappiest and more neglected in the developed world). Let's stop being so self complacent and overly tolerant and let's start assuming our responsibilities as adults we are. Having said all this, it is not to say that I don't feel for and with them as parents, because regardless what were the circumstances in which the little girl's fate went wrong, the pain must be unbearable. It's two different things but please let's not mix them up, one thing is how irresponsible they were, and I'm not symathetic to that at all, and something very different is that we wish their ordeal to come to an end once and for all.

I Think the parents are absolutely irresponsible, I even think when
you watch them giving interviews to the press etc. that they are
coping TOO well with the situation….

I don't know where people get off having a go at Gerry and Kate McCann.
Every child that dies in an accident, dies because someone wasn't watching or someone wasn't taking care for a second, a minute, ten minutes, whatever.
But that sure as hell doesn't justify lashing out at grieving parents.
Get a life.
Say a prayer for Madeleine.
And say a prayer for her parents.

I am a born again Christian as well and I don’t have a right to judge these parents of Maddy but I do have an opinion… I watched them on t.v. from the beginning of her disappearance and I have never seen Maddy’s parents (especially her Mother Kate) shed one tear when they were one television talking about finding their daughter.
I am a mother of 3 and if one of them went missing, I would be in tears… It seems everytime I see them on t.v., they don’t look so sad or brokenhearted. I am leaning towards the fact that maybe they did have something to do with her disappearance. Also what kind of parents would leave their “babies” alone? Aren’t they both Doctors??? C’mon, they gotta be smart right?

IN RESPONSE TO: PADDYMURRAY

EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINION. AS PARENTS I THINK IT'S FAIR TO SAY THAT LEAVING TODDLERS AND BABIES ALONE (ESPECIALLY IN A PUBLIC HOTEL) REGARDLESS IF IT WAS THEIR ROOM, IS JUST THE DUMBEST THING YOU CAN DO AS A PARENT. THEY'RE NOT NEW PARENTS. THEY'RE ALMOST 40 YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE 3 CHILDREN AND THEY'RE DOCTORS!  IT'S JUST THE SAME AS LEAVING YOUR BABY OR TODDLER IN A CAR AND GOING BACK EVERY 30 MINUTES TO CHECK ON THEM. LIKE THAT FATHER THAT LEFT HIS 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN A HOT CAR WHILE IN A WHORE HOUSE. THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN THAT SITUATION AND THEY SHOULDN'T BE CONSOLED.. IT'S THE CHILDREN THAT ARE THE ONES THAT ARE SUFFERING, NOT THE PARENTS WHO ARE "ALIVE & EATING WELL IN PERFECT LIVING CONDITIONS"... I PRAY PARENTS WOULD KEEP CLOSE EYES ON THEIR CHILDREN REGARDLESS THAT CRAZY THINGS MAY HAPPEN IN THIS WORLD, THE BEST THING TO DO IS LEARN FROM EVERYONE ELSE'S MISTAKES.....
