Time Warner Internet and cable TV service from Houston Street to 23rd St, from river to river, has been out for almost an hour at this point with no signs of it returning any time soon. No word yet from Time Warner as to the cause of the problem or when the service will be restored, but the size of the outage does not bode well. My neighbors Verizon DSL/open WiFi does not appear to be affected, though my Verizon EVDO is spotty at the moment. Updates will be provided as the story progresses...

Reaction amongst Manhattanites is grim. Upon hearing the news Alan Evans quipped "my god ... what are people going to do without the internet .... :-O ... expect a new baby boom in New York in about 9 months ....". What would you do with some forced down time?
