nk, thanks for this. Do we know what exactly this will mean to bloggers? What sorts of punishment will arise for this "terrorism"? If you know, that would be awesome info to add to this story.
nk, this is the worst since Yahoo in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />China. However, the summons for Raja Petra Kamarudin has been accompanied by an internal debate within the Barisan Nasional ruling coalition on bloggers. Some coalition members have already asked the government to stop trying to muzzle dissent over an alleged breach of the Official Secrets Act. Thanks for posting this story. It is Good stuff.
In the eyes of the government, a lot of bloggers are liars. Simply because when a blogger expresses his dissatisfaction with how the country is handled, the government took it as if he is questioning the rights! And in Malaysia, it is wrong to question the rights of a Muslim, their priorities and stuffs but there are bloggers who took the challenge to make the first move and even dissed the ministers in their blogs. So if you look at this matter carefully, you will realize that bloggers who always want to preserve "freedom of speech" seems to clash with the law in Malaysia which bans the people from touching the sensitive issues.
The minister addressed bloggers who disrespect the authorities as "Goblok" which means "Idiots" once again causes furore among the Malaysian blogosphere. Many are showing their unhappiness towards such label and some even suggested that they should quit blogging since the government is trying to control the blogosphere to avoid spreading of misinformation. As for me, I will always be at the safe side and not touch on politics, and I also feel that the reason why some ministers react to the statements made by some bloggers is because they simply cannot handle the truth. Not EVERY blogger is a liar anyway.
