Man arrested for threatening Hilary Duff

An 18-year-old Russian immigrant has been arrested in Manhattan Beach, California, for threatening to kill young actress Hilary Duff.

Police have charged Maksim Miakovsky with making criminal threats and stalking, and are holding the teenager on US$200,000 ($303,168) bail.

Miakovsky allegedly made threats to target Duff at an event she was due to attend at the weekend.

Duff and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, filed for a restraining order last month, claiming Miakovsky was obsessed with the actress and had "stated his intention of purchasing a weapon, and has threatened to kill himself and to engage in dramatic actions to get her attention," according to court documents.

The teenage stalker, who is now a New York resident, allegedly immigrated to America with the sole purpose of meeting the 19-year-old actress and becoming romantically involved with her.
