Police and sheriff officials chased the suspect for about a half hour before locating him a quarter-mile from the highway. When he was found, the man was naked. His clothes were recovered at the scene, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley.

The suspect turned onto U.S. 20, traveling west for only a short time before finally slowing. He exited the vehicle while it was still moving and took off on foot. The van coasted into a bluff and crashed.

The chase crossed into Jo Daviess County where more police agencies were ready to follow the vehicle.

A nearby sheriff's deputy located the male suspect's vehicle and began pursuing him as the white van reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

It all started around 11 a.m. Tuesday when the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department received a call from Crystal Erdenberger, the manager of the Zephyr Depot in Benton, Wis., who reported a petty theft case.

GALENA, Ill. - A man is in the custody of the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department this afternoon after leading officers from several agencies on a high-speed chase that spanned two states and ended with the suspect fleeing on foot and disrobing.
