Reuters is now confirming this story (originally reported by IraqSlogger.com. The number now appears to be 150+ and all the escapees are described as "insurgents." There has not yet been any statement by US military commanders in Mosul on the Badoush prison break.

Mosul, March 6, (VOI) - A total of 140 prisoners escaped Badoush prison on Tuesday afternoon after an attack by unidentified gunmen, a police source in the predominantly Sunni Ninawa province, 402 km northwest of Baghdad, said. "A group of unidentified gunmen attacked Badoush prison this afternoon", the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The armed men managed to free 140 prisoners," he noted, adding no further details. SH
