The obit was brief but not to the point at all. Simon Houpt does a great job of sending off the Weekly World News supermarket tabloid.

If you don't get tears in your eyes after you read about its remarkable journalistic accomplishments, such as its expose that Osama bin Ladin and Saddam Hussein were secret lovers, then, sir, you have no heart.

NEW YORK -- And now Bat Boy is an orphan.

The infamous black-and-white supermarket tabloid Weekly World News, which gave birth to the chiropteran superhero known as Bat Boy and which traffics in the notion that Elvis Presley is alive, has itself been killed off. Citing "challenges in the retail and wholesale magazine marketplace that have impacted the newsstand," owner American Media Inc. confirmed yesterday in a statement that it would close the print version next month. The website will continue to operate.
