June 6, 2001::Robert Ogg had been in Naval Intelligence during the war.
Ogg had detected the presence of a Japanese task force working its way
toward Pearl Harbor in December, 1941. The Japanese force had been
under radio silence. But the silence had been broken on a number of
occasions. Ogg and Lieutenant Hosner reported the intercepts to Captain
Richard T. McCullough. McCullough had access to Roosevelt through Harry
Hopkins' phone at the White House. In 1983, Ogg confirmed that
McCullough had said at the time, that the information about the
Japanese force had been passed to the White House. British
code-breakers at Bletchley had also passed the news to Winston
Churchill that Pearl Harbor was to be attacked. On November 25, 1941,
Churchill sent a message to Roosevelt. This message has never been
de-classified. It's contents might remain secret forever.
