Megawati slams Yudhoyono government

"The PDI-P is concerned about the continuing decline in the people`s prosperity. It is true that the state budget has been increased 80 percent from its 2006 figure but at the same time the numbers of poor and unemployed people have increased from their 2005 levels," the PDI-P leader said.

Megawati who is also a former president made the statements at the opening of a PDI-P National Working meeting here on Saturday.

Judging by the trend since 2004, she said, the government`s target to cut down the numbers of poor and unemployed people was not likely to be achieved.

She said present conditions being what they were, the government`s development targets were only "imaginary" ones.

"That is what is being and will be experienced by the people who had had high expectations from the government formed based on the 2004 general election results," she added.
