A Miami-Dade police detective has been jailed on charges that he fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident that led to a six-car pileup in Davie in October.

Broward County prosecutors say Michael Alayon, 28, left an early-morning car accident on Oct. 10 after he rear-ended his 1998 Lexus GS300 into a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Ryland ''Rick'' Nye on I-595. Nye, 54, of Pompano, was thrown from his truck and died instantly.

Michael Alayon was sentenced to eight years for hit-and-run involving death.  He still faces trial and sentencing for five other charges that result from his attempt to cover up his involvement.
