As job loses continue to mount in Michigan due to the state’s seemingly unrecoverable economy and businesses and residents exit the state in record numbers… Michigan’s governor appears to of come up with a new economic recovery plan… Promote Michigan as the Union’s friendliest state for the criminally intended.
As the state struggles with a budget deficit of $900 million dollars, the Governor announces layoffs affecting the State Police.
Thirty state police troopers will lose their jobs April 1, the first round of layoffs prompted by the state's deepening budget crisis.
The layoffs will drop on-the-road trooper strength below 1,000 first the first time in more than 30 years, said officials at the Michigan State Police Troopers Association.
The prison closing likely won't be the only one, as Gov. Jennifer Granholm plans to parole 5,000 more prisoners in the next budget year to cut costs.
