MEXICO CITY - A moderate earthquake rocked central Mexico on Friday, swaying skyscrapers in the capital and frightening residents. Emergency officials said no major damage or injuries were reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 and was centered in Michoacan, 125 miles southwest of Mexico City.

Hundreds ran into the streets of the capital from office buildings, joining crowds protesting results of the contested July 2 presidential election. Though messages over loudspeakers, some buildings told occupants to evacuate in Mexico City.
