I’m an American who has been working in Sri Lanka for the past two years. Over the last few months, I’ve watched the country's 26-year ethnic conflict transform into a full scale genocide against the minority Tamil population. Very little accurate information about the situation is reaching the international community, however, mostly due to the Sri Lankan government’s unfortunate habit of killing, torturing and/or imprisoning local journalists who say anything it finds objectionable. I seem to have taken up amateur journalism in an attempt to help fill that void (foreign journalists only risk deportation). However, given the circumstances, I feel it would be unwise of me to reveal any additional personal information about myself. I don't want to get kicked out of the country just yet.
