Moms Are Still Worth Bank

Oh man, I love these yearly surveys. You know, if Eddie Haskell had this information in hand you can bet he'd have been hitting up the Beaver's mom for a loan instead of just trying to scam a ham sandwich.

My wife is a "stay at home" mom. I learned long ago to reply to the question, "does your wife work," with, "yeah, she works taking care of the kids, managing our budget and making sure the trains run on time." And every now and then, when my wife is within earshot of that reply, I get "the eye" and quickly add: "And you know, she's vastly underpaid."

NEW YORK - If the typical stay-at-home mother in the United States were paid for her work as a housekeeper, cook and psychologist among other roles, she would earn $138,095 a year, according to research released Wednesday.

This reflected a 3 percent raise from last year’s $134,121, according to Salary.com Inc , Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts.

The 10 jobs listed as comprising a mother’s work were housekeeper, cook, day care center teacher, laundry machine operator, van driver, facilities manager, janitor, computer operator, chief executive officer and psychologist, it said.
