Cameron, Montana – May 22, 2007 – An enormous seven-point elk rack and skull, estimated to be more than 100 years old and believed to be the largest ever found in Montana, was discovered on Sun Ranch eco-ranch near Cameron, Mont. Ranch owner Roger Lang commissioned a painting by renowned Montana wildlife artist Larry Zabel in honor of the find; "Sundown on the Sun" depicts an imagined likeness of the giant bull elk and its likely demise. The painting and antlers were unveiled Saturday, May 19, at a benefit auction at Sun Ranch in support of wildlife conservation education through the Education and Research Endowment for the Boone and Crockett Professorship at the University of Montana. The painting and rack – which would have rated a phenomenal Boone & Crockett Club score of approximately 450 when the elk was alive – will be on loan to the university from Lang for public display.
