UPDATE: One of the wounded officers has died. 42-year-old Daniel Tessier is now the second Laval police officer killed on the job. The other officer, Stephane Forbes, was shot in the arm and is expected to make a full recovery. Tessier was married to another officer in a different force; they have two children.

Another Laval police officer was shot and killed on a domestic disturbance call about a year ago; she was the first Laval officer to die on the job. This is one of many large-scale drug raids that have taken place across North America recently. Maybe they've decided that 2007 is the year they'll reclaim the War on Drugs.

A civilian was also shot when officers entered a South Shore residence to carry out one of several search warrants issued in a drug ring investigation.

One officer was shot in the head and is in very critical condition, and the second officer is in intensive care, according to unconfirmed reports.

The civilian was also rushed to hospital but police won't elaborate on the victim's injuries, said Laval Lieut. Daniel Guérin.

Police said shots were heard around 5 a.m. ET on Rimouski Street in Brossard. Officers were executing several search warrants at the time related to the drug bust, including six in Laval and two in Brossard. The other search warrants were completed without any problem, Guérin told the Canadian Press.
