“More Fun, Less Gas” | Vespa Dealership In North County

By Carlos C. Franco

Oceanside, California – What started as a frustration with business as usual, ended in a hip little two-wheel dealership for Michael Kosakowski. “At Vespa of Oceanside it's all about your experience” as quoted from the front page of their website, just about sums up the attitude of Mike’s venture.

In an interview with Mike, a genuine sense of approachability and overall easiness came across in his demeanor. “I love the romance of the product, and going to work is a pure joy.” He explained, “I’ve been in the auto business since the 80’s, and worked my way up to General Manager for a large auto group. But I just wasn’t having fun anymore.” He added that he also saw a growing need (due to the soaring petro-prices,) to move away from gas-guzzling SUVs; especially in areas with consistently warm weather, where not having a roof on your motor vehicle is a benefit, not a drawback.

The dealership itself is very appealing to the eye; decorated in a sort-of Little Italy meets California Surf Shop, where all the goodies are out on display and test-rides are a form of greeting (like kisses on the cheek from one of the Gumbas.) There is also a fully stocked fridge, and coffee bar area to sit at (near the relaxing water fountain) if the need arises to take a break while ogling the merchandise. Flat-screen TVs playing scooter races adorn the main walls, and hang next to vintage Vespa posters and community bulletin boards. A full selection of apparel, accessories, and books that can be found everywhere and are easily accessible without assistance. But the most important and alluring part of the “experience,” is the staff itself. Everyone who works at Vespa Of Oceanside is extremely cool. I walked the floor for an hour asking questions about everything from “What’s a CC?” to “Can I ride this one too?” without ever being pushed to purchase. If you’re in the market for a new eco-friendlier mode of transport, or just a new toy, I highly recommend you stop by Vespa Of Oceanside.

This is awesome, Carlos! I've always wanted a Vespa. Great stuff; your writing is clear and those photos are excellent.
