MPs Criticise Rubbish Bin Collection Plan

I have been experiencing the system for over a year now here in South Northamptonshire with no problems. But I can see that large households would have a problem as only one grey refuse wheely bin is provided. You also need space to keep the 2 wheely bins, green and grey, which could be a problem in cities.

Fortnightly rubbish collections may not work in built-up areas and there is no proof they increase recycling, MPs say.

The Commons local government committee also called plans to let councils give money to people who recycle "timid" and said they could encourage fly-tipping.

Its report claimed such schemes were unlikely to change behaviour and said rewards of "as little as £20" would "fall short" of what was needed.

The Department for the Environment said it was "disappointed" with the report.
