Update: Multiple bodies found in Victoria, B.C. home
As this is breaking as "News Wanted", additional information will be forthcoming when it comes in.
I have posted two stories on this news.
The Bellingham Herald
VICTORIA, British Columbia -- Police in the wealthy Victoria suburb
of Oak Bay say multiple people were found dead in a home early Tuesday.
Victoria radio station CFAX reports that as many as five bodies have been found in an apparent murder-suicide.
Maureen
Ross, who lives in the area, says a young family - a man and woman in
their mid-thirties with two children between the ages of four and
eight-years-old - live in the home.
Another neighbor who didn't want to be named says the mother-in-law had recently arrived from Korea to stay with the family.
The
windows of the home have been blown out, police in white outfits are
inside the home investigating, and uniformed officers are outside the
home guarding the perimeter.
The home had recently been listed for sale at a price of more than $1 million.
CTV-TOPSTORIES
Police and fire services were called to the million-dollar residence in Oak Bay, an upscale suburb of Victoria, on Tuesday morning around 3 a.m. local time.
"We have multiple deceased persons in the home and we believe that one of those persons is the suspect, however, that has not yet been confirmed," Saanich Police Sgt. John Price told CTV.ca.
Authorities discovered two bodies upon entering the home and withdrew shortly thereafter "for various reasons with respect to safety," Price said.
Details are sketchy but it is believed that police were unable to enter the home until several hours later because someone was barricaded in the home, CTV British Columbia's Jim Beatty reported.
Beatty spoke to several neighbours who said they were woken by gunshots early this morning.
"One neighbour said she heard gunshots but police are indicating now that it may not be a gun that was involved in this particular crime," Beatty said.
There were also reports that several windows in the home had been blown out.
Police have not disclosed how the victims were killed, or how many bodies were found in total.
The home was contained by uniformed officers and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team arrived at the scene and secured the site.
"The house is now being contained as a crime scene," Price said.
Police from three municipalities -- Victoria, Oak Bay and Saanich -- are involved in the investigation.
The deaths come as a shock to the residents of the tranquil community that overlooks the ocean, Beatty reported.
Police are going through the process of notifying next of kin.
Update: September 05, 2007
VICTORIA -- Four adults and one child from the same family were found
dead in a wealthy, quiet suburb after police were called to a horrific
scene early yesterday morning.
Regional coroner Rose Stanton said blood
splatter experts and other crime scene investigators have been called
in and the bodies likely won't be removed from the house until today.
When asked why a blood splatter team from
Vancouver was being brought in when the coroner said no gunshots were
involved, a police officer at the scene responded: "Use your
imagination.
"It's bad, for 30 years of doing this, it's bad."
Attacker knew victims

Saanich police said the attack wasn't random and the suspect knew the victims.
Stanton said there were signs someone tried to set something on fire.
"There was some flammable material involved," she said.
Officers
were summoned to the home around 3 a.m. by a 911 call to police and
discovered two people dead as they entered the home.
Police then backed out of the house, called
the emergency response team and evacuated six surrounding homes as a
safety precaution.
It was only hours later that police searched the home and discovered three other bodies.
"Our
main priority now is to ensure the persons are properly identified,"
said Oak Bay Chief Const. Ron Gaudet in a short statement to the media.
Land titles records show Sunny Yong Sun Park, a Victoria businesswoman, became the registered owner of the property in June.
Another woman who declined to be named said she walked near the house yesterday morning and could smell gas.
She said one officer told her there had been a gas leak.
The windows of the home were blown out, police in white outfits were inside and uniformed officers guarded the perimeter.
