Feeding the controversy are a series of incidents pitting Europe's Muslim population against its Christian majorities: Last year's riots in France, the Danish cartoons of the prophet Muhammad, the slaying of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, honor killings in Germany, terrorist attacks in Britain and Spain, and Europe-wide concerns about illegal immigration."There's a rise in Islamo-skepticism," said Franck Fregosi, a specialist on Islam at France's National Center of Scientific Research. "There's a fear and tension that's installed in certain parts of the population, and I don't think it bodes well for the future."

A rise in Islamo-skepticism?
Really!!!, Do ya' think?
Stop blowing things up, bringing buildings down, and insisting that everyone else be required to live life in Sharia Law and maybe we non-muslims (the great unwashed) might be willing to just let things be. But until then ... UNCOVER!
You Muslim women who feel comfortable in full traditional dress because YOU are not the target of terrorism need to have compassion toward the rest of us ... the rest of us in public; we need to know that we can identify you if you mean to do us harm.

Very interesting, Ed.
This idea of western fear requiring compassion - that's new. And perhaps, news. Would love to see you take a go at this.
Would like to see you writing under your real name, btw!

NP, Actual News Guy (is this your real name?),
Please do not get me wrong, I feel for the plight of those who become victimized through the actions of people who identify themselves of being from the same group.
Hey, I am a white, Anglo-Saxon, Christian male in North America and, truthfully, there IS a target on my back, and it has been there for most of my life. I am a political pariah here in the "lower 48".
I have compassion and not fear, in the same regard, people who feel they have the right to cover themselves when applying for a job within the general public, or expect to do the same in the context of identification photographs, or board public transportation without the possibility of being stopped and questioned by security authorities in this day and age should show compassion for the rest of us in society and quit whineing, get on-board and condemn those who blow things up.
Signed, ecj-maxine (I am easily found)

The Muslim veil is not supposed to reveal anything but in reality it reveals an arrogance and intolerance for the sensitivities of others that is beyond belief
It is arrogant because the wearer of the veil shows that she has no intention of adopting to the ways of the host country, the country which has given her a standard of living which would be impossible to achieve in her own country. Effectively she is saying: "I don't acclimatise myself to you, you acclimatise yourself to me."
It is insensitive because she is apparently indifferent to the feelings of the population of the host country. Effectively she is saying to them: "This is what I think of your culture."

News Guy..
"Stop blowing things up, bringing buildings down,...." If you target all Muslims..
Then.. You have the same mentality/racism Hitler had as a Christian...
It is so silly to hold 1.79 billion Muslims responsibile from 4-5 terorists' actions...
btw .. - Not all Muslims dress like that...
------
A couple years ago, EU contries was criticizing Turkey's veil ban in Schools, and Government buildings... Now.. :)
Peace...

Point taken ... but I am still waiting for someone other than a Muslim to threaten the free world with as much vigor and uncivilized barbaric distruction as the "few" Muslims seem to be creating. While, in the meantime, 80 year old women have to take off their shoes at the airport.
Also, where and when is the outrage over the actions of a "few" Muslims going to be coming from the Muslim community? Where?, when?, I do not see it.
Really, it is just time to uncover in public circumstances when context calls for it. Just as the old lady has to take off her shoes when asked.
