Myanmar: US wants puppet regime

Myanmar's military government has accused the United States of plotting to install a puppet regime in the country.

The allegation came after George Bush, the American president, said in his state of the union address on Tuesday that the US "will continue to speak out for the cause of freedom" in the South-East Asian country.

The state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper accused the US of pressing for a UN Security Council resolution against the country as a way of installing a new government.

The paper said the US put pressure on the UN Security Council to intervene in Myanmar issues.
