OK, so the news is now in. Chris Simon won't be facing criminal charges so that's a good thing.

Sports is sports and crime is crime and never the twain shall meet. Except when someone makes an illegal bet. Or throws a fight. Or extorts money from an athlete to get a particular end result. Or  like when some guy slugs a ref cuz his son gets thrown out. That sort of thing. But a criminal charge for just high sticking? Gimme a break. What happened to Tod Bertuzzi?  no charges. and he broke a guy's neck. So let's all get back to hockey.

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A New York Islanders player suspended for a league-record 25 games for a vicious on-ice hit against the rival New York Rangers will not face criminal charges, prosecutors said Monday.

"After completing a thorough review of the on-ice incident," Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement, "my office has declined to criminally charge New York Islander Chris Simon."
