Nearly 5,000 Run Around Silverstone Circuit

THOUSANDS of women defied the stormy weather at Silverstone last night to run together for their friends or loved ones affected by cancer.

More than 4,770 women took part in Northamptonshire's 5k Cancer Research UK Race for Life, and organisers estimated they raised up to £394,000 towards help fight the disease.

Participants jogged, walked or ran around the course, all wearing badges on their backs saying who they were running for . . . whether it was for mum, dad, grandma or just for hope.

This was the second time the race had been held at Silverstone and Helen Nassau, the main organiser of the event, said it went brilliantly.

She said: "We are slightly under last year's total but we are still absolutely delighted with the result.

It's always good to see everything come together.

The women who took part have worked so hard to train for this.

It's a brilliant atmosphere."
