With another storm bearing down on the battered citizens of the Pacific Northwest, it's almost unbelievable that upwards of 250,000 are still without power in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia, in Canada.

Crews are working around the clock to cut away trees that have downed hydro lines, but with another fierce storm predicted for Wednesday night, the darkness and cold may only deepen.

BC Hydro, the public utility that powers British Columbia, reports that entire communities have been in the dark for the last 5 days or more. The small community of Dawson Creek in Northern BC has nearly 3000 living in cold dark houses. Have all these people been forgotten?

About 99,000 customers of Puget Sound Energy remained without power for a sixth day Wednesday, following a powerful windstorm last week, the company reported on its Web site.

That figure was down from 700,000 without power Friday. About 82 percent of those have had power restored, Puget Sound Energy said.

PSE, the biggest power company in Washington, with 1 million customers, was the hardest-hit among utilities in Washington, British Columbia and Oregon that, combined, had about 1.8 million customers without power at the peak of the storm's impact last Friday.
