Neath Port Talbot Age Concern are on the look out for volunteers to help bridge the generation gap in Neath and Port Talbot.

An intergenerational project is urging the over 50's in Sandfields, Cymmer, Melyn, Dyffryn Cellwen and Ystalyfera to volunteer to give a little time each week to work with young children in local schools.

The project, launched at the start of the year, is already established in five primary schools and is funded by pharmaceuticals company Pfizer UK Foundation.

The help needed is to support class teachers by helping children with numeracy and reading and sharing skills and knowledge they have learned themselves.

Paula Griffiths, Neath Port Talbot Age Concerns project development officer, said "This is such a beneficial project. It provides our elderly volunteers with new energy and feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction."

More details can be found by telephoning Mrs Griffiths or Gareth Down on 08700 602141.
