NP Rank:
Nelson Mandela implicated in Queensland fraud scandal?
Here's an email circulated by the Queensland Police Service regarding a fradulent bulk email they've intercepted. The announcement describes the fradulent document as "another email fraud attempt". The document they have released is signed "Nelson Mandela". It's not clear if the Police Service suspect Nelson Mandela, the iconic former President of South Africa, of having lapsed into a late-life career as a fraudster. It's not clear, because the QPS doesn't mention whether they think the letter has been written by a charlatan posing as Mandela, of if they think Mandela wrote it himself. Sure, you're thinking the answer's obvious, but I sure wouldn't like it if my name was on that letter, and the QPS media team didn't take a little more time clarifying the things they want the public to know.

If I were Mandela, I'd be pretty angry. He may be 89, but he trained as a pugilist... meanwhile, the ANC is going through some corruption scandals, but I don't think email fraud is one of them!

I too would disregard the story as well, it is highly unlikely a man of Mandela's intelligence and good name would ever give it an initial thought. It can be pretty safe to point the finger at others using his good name for their own nefarious purposes. Winnie comes to mind.
