Nepal Paralysed, Nepalis Sick
Trust me, I'm tired of news from Nepal that always consist of strikes, bandhs, killings, fights and launching of new protests. For the past few days, I didn't browse a single news portal. May be that was also due to the colorful festival of Holi but now when I'm back from my holiday vacation- again the same news of unrest and andolans (movements) make me sick. We, in capital city of Nepal, loathe politics because our politicians are failed leaders.
The impact of civil war and the ongoing revolutions is palpable. I went to buy few DVDs of Bollywood/Hollywood movies yesterday. Guess what- I ended up with two DVD collections- Revolt in the World War 2 and Modern War. I was naturally inclined to such films like Uprising, Stalingrad, The Wild Geese, Auschwitz (Revolt in the World War 2) and Jarhead, The deer Hunter, Black Hawk Down, Windtalkers, Tears of the Sun (Modern War). Honestly- I'd Will Smith's movies in mind- but...
It's difficult to think of widely proposed 'New Nepal' now for an ordinary Nepali citizen. I wonder how do our faint-hearted politicians talk about it every now and then.
Life in the eastern hilly and Tarai districts was crippled for the third consecutive day today due to the indefinite transport strike announced by transport entrepreneurs and workers. They have demanded that the roads be declared zone of peace.
The strike also affected the Holi festivities. People were not very enthusiastic in celebrating the festival due to disruption of transport services. The strike has made it very difficult for people to move from one place to the other, said Sanjay Jha of Saptari.
The indefinite strike has also hit life in the eastern hilly districts. Transport entrepreneurs in the east of Janakpur zone have expressed their solidarity with the strike. Vehicles remained off the roads on Mechi Highway also.
Our Dhankuta correspondent reported that life in the eastern hilly districts including Dhankuta and Tehrathum was affected as vehicles remained off the roads due to a chakkajam today. Public transport services were also disrupted in Udayapur, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Panchthar and Ilam.

I'd really like to see stories of how ordinary Nepalis are coping with all these disruptions and disasters, Salik. I don't know if you are interested, but please consider heading out with your camera and notepad, finding some human story to put a real face on all these difficult circumstances

Definitely. It'll help those living outside Nepal to understand what everyday life in Nepal is. I've also thought about this.
Thank you for the 'push', ANG.
