In Tokyo's newest, glitziest urban development area named Midtown, just five to ten minutes' drive away from the now famous Roppongi Hills, sits a voluptuous, modern art museum. Designed by famed architect Kisho Kurokawa, the 14,000 square metre National Art Center sits serenely among trees, garden benches, and unpolished granite. A must-visit for all art and design buffs, this mammoth of a museum is now the largest in Japan and houses numerous exhibitions at a time, but its well-lit, spacious design doesn't make the museum feel too packed at all. After visiting all the exhibits (which would take a considerable amount of time), regain your energy in one of the three restaurants and deli's, the most notable of them the VOGUE Cafe, which is sponsored by, you guessed it, Vogue Magazine.

So next time you travel to the Far East, make sure you stop by at Tokyo to pop into the magnificent National Art Center for an afternoon of cultural learning and relaxation.
