LOS ANGELES -- George Lucas wasn't kidding when he said "Indiana Jones 4" is a go.

According to Variety, the long-anticipated fourth installment of the blockbuster film series is slated for a May 22, 2008, release.

Like the previous installments, Steven Spielberg will direct and Harrison Ford will star.

Ok seriously, Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones?  After this log of a hiatus from The Last Crusade?  I can imagine the titles.  Indiana Jones and The Swollen Prostate or Indy and the Quest for Viagra.

Of course, as the public has shown by continually pandering to film makers and actors egos---admit it, we all sat through Star Wars III in spite of the previous installments---we will go and watch this caricature of a once-beloved film hero.  I suggest a double feature at the drive-in.  Rocky XXI:Huh? What's Boxing? and Indiana Jones 15: The Return to Lecturing.

Just my two cents, for whatever they are worth.

Nonetheless, this definitely qualifies as news. A new Indy film will very likely be a smashing success, regardless of the quality of the film.

DISCLOSURE: As a child, I wanted to be Indiana Jones.

I completely agree, and will go on the opening weekend.

BTW, I still want to be Indy, it would be fun to kick Nazi butt!  As a child, I wanted to be Spiderman and now that Kirsten Dunst is Mary Jane, I want to be him even more.
