In the lower 9th ward, homes were completely destroyed by a combination of the Hurricane and a breach of the levies that were holding the lake back. When the levies broke, waters rose up to 24 feet. Entire Neighbourhoods were destroyed. Entirely. What's left is moldy, rotten and unihabitable. Other areas of the city fared better, with lower or no flooding, but there is a TON of work to be done everywhere.. The rebuilding is a legacy that will take a long time to achieve.
