The irony couldn't be more bitter: Under a Page 1 headline, "NEVER FORGOTTEN," the Express-News announced its 9-11 coverage Tuesday, and then forgot three of the four 9-11 victims with ties to San Antonio.

There is no excuse for the inexcusable. We apologize to our readers for the oversight, especially to the families and friends of Dora Menchaca, Zandra Cooper Ploger and Rosa Maria "Rosemary" Chapa, all of whom were killed when hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

"This was a serious error of omission that will force us to re-examine some of our reporting and editing procedures," Express-News Managing Editor Brett Thacker said.
