I would imagine this is a practice that is highly frowned upon as it calls into question the integrity of a legitimate news site which would allow this practice to take place on a regular basis. I've long suspected a certain author has been doing this but as it is a serious allegation I've not mentioned it until now, and the evidence is still circumstantial but I'm sure staff can easily look into ISP addresses and if I'm mistaken NowPublic and this user will receive my humblest apologies.
(I only mention this as the non verified identity has made repeated ad hominem personal attacks for a long time now and refuses to register. I also concede my comments in these articles are harsh but they are appropriate as the article's contents contain numerous allegations of criminal activity on a number of government officials with no substance at all- just some background- and you will see I am not the only registered NowPublic user who is questioning the validity of this "reporting"))
The user is http://my.nowpublic.com/scrivener
and the suspected socks are the non verified commenters "TI", and less frequently "Mark Twain", "Winston Smith" and a few others.
What's led me to believe this? Simply the overuse of consecutive hyphens, known in typography as "EM Dash". It's extremely rare but the author uses it alot and so do all the above socks.
Any of his most recent articles will have comments from the above users. These over the top articles have been proliferating for a long time, when the false claims are pointed out he simply writes another... then another.... I don't think it qualifies as news, perhaps parody?
I'm sure this is an easy matter for you to either verify or clear up, I thank you in advance for your time and attention toward this matter.

If responses to my articles emanate from the same IP address as mine, it is because color of law violating agents and/or operatives of U.S. security-military-intelligence agencies and commands trying to slander and silence me are using government operative computers to"spoof" my IP address to make it appear so...
...and then they get their psychological operations disinfo agent to make a public allegation so that unknowing NowPublic.com staff is duped into becoming unwitting accomplices to my slandering and neutralization by similar elements within the U.S. intelligence community and its No. 1 military cyber "security" contractor.
Indeed, it is obvious to me that virtually ALL of the comments I see to my articles, over my obviously intercepted, surveilled and hacked (by U.S. operatives) connection are written by psy ops agents, not "real people."
NowPublic: do not be duped by constitution-disrespecting, color of law violating elements, as represented here by the apparent agent making these allegations.

Everything Scrivner writes about is the truth. These atrocities are happening to innocent citizens and our Constitutional rights are being stripped away. As a fellow "TI". I am very grateful for his articles.
The #1 objective of the people who perpetuate such crimes is to silence the truthtellers--by any means. NowPublic.com is a vital resource for the public at large, in terms of disseminating the ongoing practice of torture, slandering, harassment, illegal surveillance, etc--by government agencies and thugs-for-hire. Innocent people's lives (and the lives of their loved ones--including children) are being destroyed and it can happen to anyone.
Scrivner is reporting a crime. He is also a victim of the crime. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes becoming a victim to believe such an evil can exist in this country. This doesn't make him an 'opinion puppet'. It makes him a passionate defender of civil liberties.

"Everything Scrivner writes about is the truth. These atrocities are happening to innocent citizens and our Constitutional rights are being stripped away."
That's like saying because we can document someone climbed Mount Everest and visited the moon, I can write articles about how I climb Mt. Everest or fly to the moon on a regular basis, not support these claims with any photos, links or other substantiation- and you can just stumble in and say "Everything Batvette writes about is the truth".
Doesn't work that way. My criticism of his wild claims should not be mistaken as questioning the occurance of actual crimes happening to other people.
"As a fellow TI I am grateful for his articles".
I'm a TI as well and I am not grateful for his continued stream on this site of allegations of criminal activity by government agencies and real individuals without a single shred of evidence to suggest a rational basis for his claims. Lately he's taken to including corporations in these false allegations, such as Lockheed Martin and Silobreaker.com.
He's levelling accusations of heinous criminal activities against real people with the most nonsensical rationales and if it doesn't come back on Vic or NowPublic in the form of libel suits, it's going to come back on the TI community as a liability to our credibility for years in the future.
No, I cannot find reason to be grateful for that.
However none of the above are really relevant to this thread, and the fact Vic has come in and replied that IF said sock puppeting were occuring then it would be the work of unknown conspirants against him, leave me only more convinced (in light of NowPublic's understandable hesitation to respond to this certainly ugly matter) he is in fact guilty of being his own sock puppet as accused. Why would he offer such a thing unless he knew their investigation would result in his apparant guilt? If he wasn't doing it he'd say so and let the facts speak for themselves.
I'll finish with this: If Vic's personal stories about what is happening to him are the truth why are they being published as opinion and not as news?
