NowPublic site now impossible to view and impossible to use. The ads are contributing to the problems, esp the ad rotator.
Just to load anything takes forever.
Let me know when it's fixed. I've got some pictures of the Mississippi River banks. and I can't even get to a page to upload them.

thanks for adding the link 'write a story' to our personal pages. Will make it a lot easier.
Publishing, adding a comment or reply to a comment is very buggy. Can submit, and nowpublic begins loading, and loading and loading. The only way I can tell if it succeeded is by using my personal page and reloading it, or goingto my google reader and clicking on the story link to.
Still takes way too much time to get anything done.

Pathetic that it takes over an hour to edit just one story: minor changes= run-on words, links, blocks, etc. Just takes too dam long to post and edit a story. this has to improve or all the best contributors will give up.
too hard to even try to write an original story either. the only ones who are prolific still are either paid by NP or don't have anything better to do or are so fanatic they have to try to impose their biased views.

Can't upload photos. NP won't load on Firefox. Bet it's the adjuggler script! It gets stuck on that and doesn't progress from there.
Bye for now. Enjoy the Saints site and news.,

Oh, yeah, get the SPAM killer when I try to post a comment or send a private email. I'm not a spammer. or did someone set my account to do that?
at 10:50 on May 31st, 2008
The new antispam system constantly calibrates based on what people submit. You'll find that some comment "silhouettes" trigger a CAPTCHA* (letter combo) and some don't. Overall, we the actual humans have to enter less math, and spambots are able to post less crap. The first day this was rolled out, though, was kind of harsh, as nobody could post comments for about an hour. The thing has to be retuned from mall-cop to SWAT team, but it's working more smoothly now!
(I loathed the math CAPTCHA because sometimes it got its own math wrong, which, combined with my own weak math skills, led to numeric mayhem)
--> I had to fill out the letters and numbers just to post this
* CAPTCHA = Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart (They combined some of their T's to prevent an even more tortured acronym)

Driving me nuts: I can't turn off the never-ending stream of notices that someone uploaded something to the Japanese beer made from space barley story. Yea, I've followed the instructions to do so, more than once.
At this point, the never-ending photos of beer and unknown people with beer feel like spam to me. I'm sorry I ever filed the darned story, and if I keep getting hit with these notices, I'll just delete it.
A real wish: the ability to truly moderate our own stories. I think known and trusted contributors should have the ability to stop photo submission, to stop threads, and to block flamers and the rude posters from otherwise-civil threads.
Also, when I delete a photo from a story, even if it's for good cause like being totally tasteless or even racist/insulting, it stays in the NP database. Ooops.

So who writes the "silhouettes" and what criteria are they based on? I've whacked some outright spam recently, and if a known contributor like Rene is getting blocked because she's been "silhouetted" as a spammer, then something isn't working right. It's already irritating enough when real junk hangs out on the front page forever, and good material just...disappears. How come?

hey man how does one find out "silhouettes"???

I can relate, with over almost 600 Coca-Cola photos uploaded to my Coke and Stevia story.

(shudder). I just wish I could get the notifier to STOP. I also wish I could figure out how I find "sent" messages from me to people about their stories that often, I haven't even read, but the email says I did something to that story!

Including an active link (even if it's a NowPublic link) in your comment, private message, does trigger the dam SPAM - catpcha syndrome. and you never know if the thing works unless you can manage to pull up the story in another tab or window. which you cannot do in a private message. This is so time-consuming and computer consuming.

Just wish my LOCAL CHANNEL would carry local stories:
Dubai, Syria, IWC, and Korea in my local channel, while my Katrina housing story disappears in less than an hour. It should be in my local channel, at least when I am signed in. dammit.
They aren't even in the same hemisphere.

Safari started freezing and crashing again. It was working for a while. Camino having problems now too. Spinning spin, comments and site won't load. Now on Firefox which I Persona'd to match the site.
Same complaint about my local channel stories.

On the local channel comment -as far as I know, ever since the first time I looked at local it has never had anything local. I get the same problem you see for your local channel.
For the developers: I believe the problem is based on city name vs. zip code -or at least there is no error check. As an example: for me I live in Birmingham, Michigan USA...but stories for Birmingham UK show up in my local feed -right now that is pretty much all of the stories. I think a code change to error trap for City name match to zip/state/country would solve the problem fairly quickly. :)

Just added a graphic to my story on Bertha, but it doesn't show up on story, on front page when I click on it, it is connected to story, but....
And even tho it has been a lot longer than five seconds since my last post, comment or whatever I get this:
way too many times. Why is the site so slow for those signed in? Better recruit some of those Yahoos/techs who are jumping ship.

The graphic I posted finally shows up 45 minutes later, with email notice: posted by 'Anonymous user (not verified)
