Bugs!

Bugs!

You report 'em, we exterminate 'em.

This site is like a living thing, an ecosystem of symbiotic code. As such, things change rapidly, and not all changes are visible on the front end. All this change means that sometimes things go awry. Each week, your friends on the NowPublic development team line up the most pernicious bugs... and crush them.

Blank pageloads? Erroneous error messages? Malfunctioning tools? We want to hear about it. If you find a bug, you can report it here, if someone else hasn't posted it first.

Also, each week we will be posting a list of what bugs got bashed.

If you're not sure if it's a bug or not, feel free to contact me with a private message.

This 'freezing-text box issue' now pervades all my browsers: Safari, firefox and Camino. If I hit the submit button too many time, it gets double posted and the 'spinning wheel of death' just keeps spinning. The only way to tell if it posted, is to open another window or tab on NowPublic. and even that is iffy, as pages take forever to load.

Hope that ad-server's viruses didn't do permanent damage, or damage that is so hidden your techies can't find it to fix.

Good Luck all. Maybe better to do without ads if it makes the site impossible to use. Get AP to ante up.

Anyone at home?

Several forum and 'contact' e-mail responses to queries from CN are outstanding.

That's because of tag/category subscriptions, most likely... Once someone added a photo to one of my stories, and I heard about it four times: once for the phot, once for the comment, once for the "monkey" tag and once for the "tech/biz" tag...

As for Camino- yeah, it's come a long way!

Today, May 14th, is a turbulent day. Recurring site problems are resulting in slow (or no) pageloads, and using Highlight will generate false erroro messages, though stories are actually publishing.

Please keep your seatback trays secured.

Hey Jordan!

I thought the site was gone for good this a.m. as I couldn't get NP to load.  Glad it is just glitches.  We all have them.  Short in duration and low frequency is the key.  Good day!

Your in the right place.  I think it is better to click on a reply for Jordan as he can get an email that you posted.

HelP! Help! Jordan. I have 471 messages from my Coca-cola story that I need to mark as read and recycle. tried selecting them all, but it won't let me do anything else. Please assist. thanks. My computer is overheating as is, don't have all day to do this.

Hi, Jordan, Needless to say. I was shocked to find over 500 photos added to my Coca-cola story.
Finding it hard to get my blog to load. and when I went from email notice to monitor the photo, whether to add it to my blog, it didn't give me a choice. just added it. Wow. not what I wanted at all.
500 photos on my blog, they'll suspend me! even just thumbnails.
Please help.

Can someone tell me how I can get rid of "Your Stream" on the 'My Channel' page.  This 'stream' goes on forever and just elongates the page for no useful purpose to my viewers.  Any info on how to delete this would be appreciated.

All the photos didn't load on my blog, thank god. but still the email glitch is still annoying.

Also last week when clicking on a comment link, it took you to the actual comment instead of to the beginning of two pages of comments, which was sooo nice. but now it takes you to the beginning again. darn.

Rene, I no longer publish to my blog from NP, because then I have no control over the tags, or the things added to it.

Like you, lately once again I've been experiencing the "spinning wheel" of almost-death. It can take up to 10 minutes to publish commentary with a highlight. Yep, that's just one. The wait time is longer than it takes to do the darned thing.

The confirmation message generated by Highlight (though I've come up with shorter names consisting of only four letters) appears very, very late at the moment, but the article actually publishes quite a bit earlier. We're working on getting the message to match the action...

I always edit it on my blog, Pep, if it's not what I like. and it's a lot faster to edit. Course you could always post on your blog and then highlight it for NowPublic. that's how I originally found NowPublic from nukegingrich's story on scientists freezing light. NowPublic takes a long time to load now no matter what, but I've been opening it in another tab or window to check if my post or comment goes thru cuz of that darn spinning never-ending wheel.

For me, it's more efficient and practical to highlight from my blog. I really hate working on the same story twice, ya know?  Like you, I've had problems with materials if I do it the other way.

Those malicious people are clever from time to time.

The good guys are clever also.

NowPublic is now as slow as molasses. Takes 10 minutes to get one line written in a comment.

Never can find out if a story or comment is posted without opening another window, tab or browser, which slows things down even more. I can't even post a story without wasting a whole day.

Now we got the dreaded 'captcha'. Will someone tell me why "Overworked traffic controllers" is considered a SPAM comment?

Right now, we can't seem to get rid of Private Messages- the online equivalent of plastic-wrap over the bin. It should be fixed soon, though.

The only rich-text commands that work are the linking and HTML-view. For those of you experiencing vanishing text, don't worry- you're not losing your mind! It seems to affect text copied from another word-processing source (like Word), and likely is filter-related. It's a priority for us, and we're on the case. If anything more serious pops up, let me know!

I've spotted a bug:

In the comment reply boxes, the B, I, Indent etc buttons don't seem to have any effects for me.

Thanks. :)

Ah, wait, this is what I meant. Yes, rich text commands don't seem to be working! :)

Original posting does not have a date/time stamp viewable when you open that topic page e.g. looking at Jordan's post above, in the yellow part there is no date/time stamp) ...comments work just fine.
