We've made some changes to the way stories are created on NowPublic and added some new features to help you do more with your material.

When you come to write a story you'll notice a number of enhancements. Here are some of the most important:

  • when you want to add tags to your story, we'll suggest popular tags as well as location tags, to help other people find your stories more easily
  • as you write a story, you can discover and link to other related stories on NowPublic
  • you can now customise the layout of your story, deciding how photos and videos are displayed, and adding other new elements such as quotes, comments and RSS feeds.

Want to find out more? Click on the "how do I get published?" link on the Get Published button just on the right of this page. Or watch the video here.

Please let us know what you think about the changes by posting a comment, or ask a question if you would like more information.

If you are having any issues using highlight in FireFox, go to this forum post here and it will help you update it.

Hey are we not longer able to search the web for content like flickr? I never did that, but someone did to me and that's actually how i first got involved.

Yes you still can - you just need to enter your Flickr details in your 'settings' page and then the ability to crowd-source (what we call it) will be visible to you just below the flagging options on any story.

ok thank you much amy.

Update: before i  forget wanted to say i noticed the new bar for checking related stories. Wanted to suggest that this be made into an auto feature once the person intially loads the story...as a measure to prevent duplication...only because i think people may not take the time to check and link...or reconsider posting because its already up. This might save you guys a lot of space in the end and a lot of time from having to link manually in comments, etc. Its great that you added the feafture, i have no idea how plausable it is to have the site do a quick search on the right side and post results, but wanted to suggest.

edit 2 - ok except maybe a flag button to report inflammatory comments like the ahole who was calling people idiots today and stuff. if you could get an ip address and ban that way you could prevent people from signing up again.

ok im done.

ok im all out of suggestions. except for a general donate feature. but that's it. that is totally it.

Thank you for your thoughts on the related stories. We have wanted to get something up about this for a long time as we think it will be a way to prevent as much duplication as possible. It is always helpful to do a search before posting to see if the story has been posted before, but we are hoping this new feature will prompt collaboration. If we find that it does not, then we will revisit the tool and see if we can make it more effective.

For your second point, we do have the ability to block IP addresses, however we only use it in extreme cases. The best way to report inflammatory comments for now is to send a staff member the link of the comment, and then if we see that the member, or anon user is becoming a problem, then we will deal with them further.

Thanks
