I am afraid there is no _built-in_ solutions that would let you empty your whole inbox or sent folder apart from selecting "All" from the dropdown list and then pressing the Trash button. The Trash however can be emptied with the "Empty trash bin" button.
You can click on one e-mail message, mine comes up with a blue highlight. Then press your shift key and hold it down. At the same time go to your directional arrows and scroll down with the down key. It will highlight your e-mail lines. Then you can right click on your mouse to get the delete to come up. It will delete all those e-mails that you highlighted.
