How do you mark a story claimed as original by an author but made of plagarized content

Shouldn't there be a flag button on stories for  this? In this case while discussing his story with the author and researching data, I found that whole sections of the story were simply copy/paste lifted from elsewhere to form a story with a few comments added at the end.

http://my.nowpublic.com/world/obamas-big-spending-bill-will-fail-because-911

that's the article and here is one of the sections lifted in whole:

http://www.heartcom.org/LuckyLarry.htm

In fact after further review it appears the entire article is almost wholly comprised of the Lucky Larry story and the comments enclosed afterward by the author of the heartcom page above. I'm confused, can we do this? Aren't the two other guys due credit for their work?

Thank you!

No, we can not do this. At least not with out staying with in the Guide lines here at NP, meaning using the Highlight tool and giving sources as well as credit to the original Author. However thank you for pointing it out. Much appreciated.

Yes we do require all our members to place outside information in our highlight tool to show what is from an outside source and what isn't.

We have a needs improvement flag that staff and editors have access to that can be used in a situation like that but not everyone has access to that flag.

Thanks for the forum post

Perhaps one day that rule like all the others on NP will be applied equally to all!

It does apply equally to all! However, even here, it is not much different then the real world where we have rules and regulation as well as laws and then we have those that do not follow those rules or guide lines either out of ignorance or out of spite and some times simply because they have trouble with some tools and need some extra help.

Still, you can not catch every fish in the ocean at the same time nor help all at once, you do it one by one, little by little. Some get missed and if a member noticed he or she can point this out with out any anger nor vengeful intentions to a Staff member or a Guest Editor and it will be taken care of. It is called team work and community spirit.

No one needs to get frustrated or blow a fuse here. You could even gently PM that person your self if you wish and point it out politely asking them if they knew the rules and point them to it, or you can PM a Staff member or a Guest Editor. It is rather simple and fair.

The Fire fighters, Police or Emergency services are not around at every corner either at all times, and need to be called in most of the time to help or implement the guide line.

We could have 20 more Guest editors and 40 more staff of course, however, no one could afford that financially. Even though I think we could use 4 more Staff Editors, however, I am not the one that has to pay for them either, so it is easy to say.

It does apply equally to all! [...] go to original post

He has a good point here, as far as who flies under the radar with what, and of course it's just as in the real world. If you make a lot of enemies expect a lot of critical scrutiny. If you are friendly and affable to all, few will report minor transgressions. In this case I can be candid and admit if the article in question were not polarized with my beliefs I'd not have posted this, but it has nothing to do with anything personal with the author, not even motivated by wanting to see an opposing view disappear from my sight.

It's because I only found myself deep in discussion because it made many outrageous (and false, IMO as well as confirmable factually) claims, thus in the course of disputing them I came across the original work. Had the plagarism been so blatant I'd have had a problem with that whether I opposed it or not.
