A sub-category to NowPublic Terri Potratz's Feature Channel Health, titled "Sexuality" has been added, and fully titled, Human Sexuality.
Human Sexuality covers a wide range of topics, including sexual orientation and some NowPublic authors, including myself, are highlighting stories related to the LGBT Community.
For any NowPublic author who devotes time to LGBT related stories and/or any NowPublic author who might have concerns about the preferred terminology of the LGBT Community, for example:
"Gay marriage" or "marriage rights for same-sex couples?" Is there anything wrong with referring to an "alternative lifestyle?" Is using the word "queer" ever acceptable?,
The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association, who work within the news industry to facilitate fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues have available at their link, under "Resources" an NLGJA Stylebook on LGBT Terminology. It includes entries on words and phrases that have become common, and are the terms preferred by LGBT people today.
I hope you find this information useful when highlighting stories that are LGBT specific. Thank you!
