Member Ranking currently not updating
As many of you have noticed, the member ranking system has not been updating. Don' worry: you haven't been demoted!
This is because the system had to be disconnected due to performance issues: the ranking functionality was like a ball and chain around the site's ankle, killing our performance and leading to story-creation errors. We're not getting rid of the ranking, but instead are trying to re-implement it in a manner that won't lead to glacial pageloads and busted stories. The fix isn't a super-easy one, and will likely take a few days to roll out and test.
I apologize for the confusion.

Why not just do away with the whole points system if it causes technical difficulties? Seems like an easy solution to me!

I stumbled upon this page by accident in fact and, having read the comments, it's evident that ranking is important for some people. I don't care about it personally, and I tend to share Johnny's point of view, but if it helps to motivate people to write, as seems to be the case, then so much the better...and let's hope the bug is fixed soon!
In fact, I haven't even had a medal or whatever-it-is next to my name for the last two weeks although it was there before, and I don't have a clue where I'm ranked. I was intrigued about the medal because I thought it's absence may signify something I should know (I'm new here), so I asked and was told it was the result of a bug.. No big deal.
Anyway, we're all different...moreover some of my favourite writers are ranking fans, so if ranking helps them put up the good stuff they do, long may it reign!

Hi Politisite!
Just for your info, I had no stats or rating or medal for weeks, now it has all come back as if by magic! So it seems to me that the site is working through this stuff, slowly but surely. Maybe it will just take time to get it all done. I don't know. I'm not into tech, but it seems to have been (still is?) a big bug!!.
Moreover, ratings and stats and all stuff that are much less important in my humble opinion than your excellent post today, which is about NP's Emmy award!

I agree with Al (politsite) with the ranking, just take it down or fix it, I mean how can I proudly wear my Now Public T Shirt and swagger around town, trying to pick up Babes at the Cobalt when I am only number 10? Christ, looks like I will have to try my luck at the Ivanhoe for the babe action, at least there Number 10 means something!

I'm not terribly fussed whether the leader board goes or stays. However, if it stays I would like it to ring true.
I've had many stories on the front page (probably 70 or so at a guess) but at the moment it's only 5. Other statistics of mine are wrong also.
Bugs such as this, must confuse our regular long time readers too.
I write because I love to write and I enjoy the NP community - so stay or go, it doesn't matter, but it seems that this bug is in it's what - third month already?
