Photography Contest

Samir Joshi

Hi,

It has been a wonderful journey on NP so far and I hope to have a great one in the coming times.

I just happened to see the photography contest on the home page. However, I discovered that it is only for US Nationals.

I was just wondering if this could be extended to some other geographic locations as well. I understand that there would be huge complications in doing so. But this is just a small query or a request to know if things can work out.

Thanks and Regards,

Samir

I had no idea the contest was only for the US - I don't have anything to do with the contest myself, but will forward your question on to see what answer we can get.

Thanks for the response Amy! Hoping to get some feedback from them soon.

We had to send away for an answer so it should be just a few more days here!

Aw that's a shame, US only, I would have entered it.

Bit daft NP putting their name to that advert and the competition on a site that covers users worldwide and also NP is based in Canada.

Canada can play too

The Contest is only open to entrants who, as of the entry date, are legal residents of the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec province) (the "Territory") and who are at least eighteen (18) years old, or the applicable age of majority in their jurisdiction, if such age is other than 18.

Residents of the US and Canada (excluding Quebec) can enter the contest from what I have been told.

I know nothing more about it though, I didn't even know we were running a contest until I saw the ad on the site, so, sorry for the lack of information from the editorial staff but we didn't know either.

Excluding even Quebec? This sounds highly discriminatory to me. I can understand that there may be a logistic problem to make this international as it should be in the spirit of NP, however Quebec being excluded leaves a bitter taste behind, indicating a possible lack of good will or maybe even discrimination.

From what I understand about the contest, residents of Quebec province are excluded from this contest because it has some pretty onerous legal requirements that have to be done at least a month before the contest begins, and The Examiner who is running this contest didn't have time to do it this time. If this contest is a success, they will definitely make time to do it next time.

Anyway, just to clarify, NP is not running the contest, as we are a part of the Examiner group we are a part of the contest but we aren't running it, and editorial staff didn't even know it was happening, as I already said.

Thank you for clarifying this Amy, I was not not aware of the requirements being so demanding in Quebec for one nor has this been mentioned any where as far as I can see.

I would not be choked. This is certainly not about pointing fingers at any one. Merely clarifying some points here and I think that is what the forum is there for.

Again, thank you for your reply here.

I just continue to find it so amazing how quickly people assume we're doing somethng underhanded or mean or damaging - you yourself have defended NP in the past against this. There is a huge difference asking 'why was Quebec left out, I'm confused' as to 'how discriminating, what a bad show for NP, what a bitter taste is left in everyone's mouth.'

I'm just really surprised that's all

Anyway, now that everyone understands the rules, I don't even think we have any members in Quebec....

You are implying that I did attack NP from what I understand!?

I ask question and may be critical at times, I do also express how some thing may be or is perceived by some members here or my self, wish in it self is constructive and helpful,

" after all this contest is called (places and faces of the World) and not of North America or as perceived by North Americans."

But I do not attack NP nor try to discredit it. Much can be clarified before hand in the set up rather then the aftermath, wish would avoid the questions from being raised. I have seen many photo contest before and took part in several international once as well. Why this one seemed some what strange given the nature of the internet and NP.

We can not assume that every one knows what we do our self's, nor that every once perception may be the same or should be so. The art of diplomacy is not an easy one, is it not?. The forum is a tool of free speech and that is in essence a medium of discussion where all points can be raised and debated like in any other casual meeting with friends and pears.

I for one, am surprised at the reaction and accusation toward my questions and for relating a sentiment, that I addressed in order to be clarified and so it may clear the air. The words and phrases used where balanced in my comments. However, my comments where not accusative nor attacking. Still I am not offended nor upset by the response received to them.

Thank you for the reply Amy, it is appreciated.

Yep, but I am glad its not a world wide thing as I hate to see the poor folk down here in the Philippines of whom some take the most wonderful picture needing to pay US$100 per entry (5000 Peso), when the poor here live on 3 or 4 Dollars a day. However if they had won the profits from the competition would have been much less because of the extra air fare.

I for one am not surprised. We were told NP  was going to continue as usual, then suddenly examiner ads spring up without any notification.

I don't blame you Amy, as I am sure that you are not "privy" to certain information, too, and I hope you don't find yourself sta [...] go to original post

Did you know NP has no idea how many registered writers are online to their website? or who they are. Isn't that amazing they could sell NP to Anschutz without knowing that vital bit of information?  I was told by one of the Co-founders; I know more about NP than he does. Really!  The lesson is we don't who does the organizing in doing things, yet make it a free for all...for whom it may concern....then we jump on each other.....without considering that is the nature of NP.....highly disorganized, secretive, plotting to use writers for their profit, and improvident.

8000 plus 300 to 400 or so active or some activity at a guess Rev. That means a possible 5000 approximate active emails to send mail shots to.  They bought a nice database and they want to have 160 new examiners. However most people here will not be attracted by money nor readership because most came here for just that reason

Can you prove those numbers Bob? Anyone can pull big numbers out of a hat.....I am talking about registered writers..Why would one of the Co-owners say they have no idea how many registered writers were at NP?  Where is the live tracking counter showing how many people wrote articles today...or how many people visited this last hour... You see Bob it is hyperbolic bullshit...that one person says this and another said that.....Kind of like Democracy....where no one can validate votes...or know for sure who really wins an election.... It is paid off corruption....by who the media decides they want to back....so they magically claim winners....or top websites....or stocks...as long as the public buys their lies, of false winners, scam websites, and bankrupt stocks....
