Local news is not local on My Front Page. And Related Articles are not related. and causes problems with double posting/highlighting of stories.

I do try to add more to many of my highlighted stories, and do not like to waste my time when someone else has already highlighted it. tho I have to admit the story with almost the same Headline as mine was somewhat different. Still....

I am refering to the articles

http://www.nowpublic.com/world/kosovo-declare-independence-tomorrow

And mine

These are the "Related Articles" that show up:

Related News

Not a single story about Kosovo. Nada.

How about a little help on this issue.

I do NOT get why these stories show up under my front page Local Stories:

I am in NEW ORLEANS! Nor do I get why so many stories are repeated under channels, to eliminate others?

Rene, me too. I get a mashup of just about anything in my "local" box. Heck, sometimes I even get the spam headlines among the type that you noted above. I truly wish that the "local" box could be taken off the front page. The only time I've ever gotten "local" news out of it was only--Vancouver local news.

As you know, this is a technical issue which our engineers are working on, but I'll try to explain what I can.

The related story block is populated with stories from the same 'category' it is not based on a key word search. I think the latter method would be more effect but such is the nature of it. You can always use the search box in the masthead to search for related stories.

As to the ongoing issue with your Local, I don't have that much insight into the matter other than to suggest that perhaps your internet service is routed through which messes up the system. I entered 'New Orleans' in the local section and it was populated with relevant stories. I'll point some of our engineers to this forum and hopefully they'll be able to tell us more.

René

Uh, Ryan, it used to always have New Orleans or Louisiana or Gulf Coast stories under the local channel on the Front Page, up until a week or so ago. So whatever the techs changed recently has caused this.

And that Lori obviously posted her story more than once, on purpose I presume. Not a good look for NowPublic or very astute by the editors in charge to allow this.

Our engineers are working on the problem. Thanks for feedback, this is not a simple problem to solve.
