I have put up the" $" sign on my page several times, it comes up and then it disappears.

Also I would like to understand how the new contract works in terms of commercial aspects. How would one earn money and is there any criteria to participate.  I have signed the new agreement but have no idea how it works.  I've sent emails a few times requesting this information and never have received an answer.

The Tip Jar ("$") is not connected to the new terms of service (which has its own thread here), but is a way for readers to sent a little somethin' to their favorite contributors. Mine is gathering dust, by the way.

Since a user cannot tip him/herself, it will not be visible on your member page.

If you log out and visit your own member page, you'll see the add-to-favorites option, too, which users cannot apply to themselves.
