Is there anybody with too much time ??

Milieunet

Don't know the vision, the way to go for Now Public. But all recent "improvements" are made by people with too much time. Crazyness is coming over Now Public. Technical may be the best ever made for a public news site, but there is one big mistake in the approach.

You, guys (and girls?) at technical dvelopment think we NP-members have too much time. And that guys is the big mistake in your thinking. Speaking for myself: i have better things to do than waiting. Waiting for the next step, wating for the next required fields to fill, waiting for adding tags, hitting enter after each tab (that takes a lot of time), filling in required location, filling in required channel. Pushing the button and again a new window. This is not published. Hitting buttons again.

This is the wordt uploadingsystem i have seen so far (i'm working on over 100 websites). May be you guys are going for the Guiness Book of Records? Hiting most buttons for one upload, making most clicks, hitting enter record times. Great, but that is not my sport.

I said it before: in my opinion Now Public is drifting away very fast from a crowd-powered-media News Network to an technical "News Network". Many members made suggestions to improve channel, to ban double posts, to moderate the homepage by someone who is not putting all his 99-100% highlighted stories to the frontpage. What is the News brought in by the feeds? If that is the way to go, i have to help you guys to put in the really important feeds.

The scan on the channel pages, looks interesting, but i don't see it is usefull, same with incoming twits. Lay out of the channel pages is also strange. Stories from members getting less and less space and at some channels even uploaded photos and videos moved down at the page.

Some year ago i started to write at NP. Main reason: try-out writing in English (that was a long time ago for me), try-out my style of writing and try-out my style of posting and updating stories.

The result: my English is going a little better, although it still neeeds improvement, my style of writing without use of the highlight tool and with just now and then copy and paste a few lines, a statement or something like that was appreciated by some of you all and my style of stories posting and updating worked great, although my story about the Olympics almost blew-up NP server, because i added a little bit too much pictures and videos.

My stats are pretty cool too at Now Public. Almost 300.000 views for 100 stories. Strangely enough only 20 made it to the front page. Received 193 flags which resulted in 49 recommended stories.

So looking back: i enjoyed writing, uploading, commenting and reading at Now Public. I was happy even with the very slow connection (may be that is a problem because i 'm in the Netherlands) and i appreciated the invition from NP-team to manage the world channel. However, i decided that it should take too much time and because i didn't made it to be a millionaire, i have to work as most of use. Need some money to live like everybody.

Recently i received the anouncement that NP will go commercial and that members get some profit too. That is nice but even that money can be enough to go on publishing at Now Public with the new system.

So today i took another decision: i have to stop publishing, uploading, commenting end discussing at Now Public. Yes, you may see this as my last option to convince the technical team they created a time grazing system.

Today i uploaded two pictures. First i had to fix something stupid: a picture uploaded but not published. Hanging in the system. Oh, yes we are aware of that bug was the nice answer of technical support. You can do some stupid moves to solve that. That didn't work Rok, but i find out some solution.

Finally i manged it. Two pictures uploaded, filled in all required fields, added tags, location and was going through to whole procedure with great result: the two pictures of some nice Christmas Girls were added to my story.

Just one little point: IT TOOK ME MORE THEN A HALF HOUR TO FIX THIS UPLOAD MESS

Thanks guys. Here is my final protest: i'm out, goodbye, auf wiedersehen, tot ziens. And for Now Public members: when you agree with me: follw me and stop your activity at Now Public as long as working at NP takes soo much time, only because the system was changed.

I understand that frustration levels are a little high with some of the tools on our site right now, and I can assure all our members that we are very aware of the issues and are working round the clock to fix them. Some fixes are more difficult than others and will take longer, but we haven't forgotten about them, and are definitely not going to just ignore them.

The reason we wanted to develop this new technology is not to frustrate our members but to help you showcase your work better. We have some amazing tools that will allow everyone to display their content in a new and unique way, but as we did roll out a lot of changes at once, it is expected that some bugs will occur and some things will need to be looked at two or three times.

When you have as many tools as we do, there are going to be some issues, but we are very aware of them and we are working round the clock to deal with them.

We are always updating NP so that we can provide the best resources to our members, but fixing these current issues is our top priority over the holiday season and please know that we are working hard to solve all these issues.

Thanks for bringing this up here and bringing it to our attention - that is very much appreciated also.

Hmm.. I'm the newbie here, but I don't have any problem at all with the system?

With the exception of the account problem which they fixed...but as far as me using it, it seems to be a straight forward simple user interface?

What exactly is the problem you are having milieunet, and what do you think would be a good solution?

Perhaps you could share and help?

Milieunet, I do have trouble my self every now and then, and at times I have to admit it is actually my wrong doing that causes the problem and other times well it is a bog of some sorts. Yet, I know that this does happen on all sites to some extend, even other CJ sites I use have this sort of problem every now and then. We can all work through this and help each other no need to blow fuses here even though it is frustrating at times.

I know the Technical team does do what ever they can and as fast as they can and this being Christmas, may explain some delays wish should be taken into account with some more tolerance.

I hope to read your next post soon about Farming practices and the new legislation coming into effect in the Netherlands.

Merry Chritsmas and Happy New Year Millieunet.

Well if nobody has the same problems, it seems to be my problem.

Try this and you will find out: upload a few pictures and search for some videos you already know exactly where they are on the internet.

Try to find this one and upload it to a story:

Message to President-elect Barack Obama http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=qirYqwylpRA

In my opinion the new system (besides some bugs but the team is working hard to fix) takes too much time. That's it.

Nowpublic does not care what problems you may have, like when I received a very obnoxious message from a staff intern during my first month on NP and then they allowed one of their News Wranglers to publish lies about me which led to me deleting my site. They don't care because enough new people will always come along. NP isn't interested in keeping quality writers they just  want people who post and never complain about anything. Sad thing is that in the end they lose the best writers?

So what you are saying then is it would be nice if you could just add the link directly instead of a search because it would be faster?

If that is so, it sounds like a good idea.

Yep, most of time i know exactly where i can find the video. Embedding isn't possible, because NP uses another kind of system (i think, not sure about that).

So if you can give in the exact url, should be very convenient. The same with the title of the video. Searching on that gives no good results. So then you need the tags and you need them all.

You Tube is seperating tags with two spaces. NP search engine needs , pace between words. That's it.

@all

Thanks for your reactions, comments and suggestions. Great support.

And there is more good news. Today i found out that uploading is working again. So that is good. Takes still too much time to upload pictures. To much required fields, too much steps.

Should be nice to hear something from NP-team (sorry Amy, your comment is nice and highly appreciated, but it is no reaction on my subject: it takes too much time).

the uploading system does not work at all, nor has done for months. I have complained but no response.

Typical.....

Nothing is beta tested before release. This is the issue

You are spot on... I totally agree with what you said.
