Wrangler Flags

mchawk

Hi all,

Somebody stop me if I'm going over old ground here, but I get the impression (from the "Member's Guide") that there was a time when general members couldn't flag a story as Good Stuff - that this was a privilege you got when you became a wrangler.  I might be barking up the wrong three, there, but it strikes me, from the description of the Wrangler, that you'd like us to be as involved as we possibly can be in this site, without us shouldering editorial responsibility.

With that in mind, might I suggest that the Wranglers be given access to a second flag - perhaps the "needs improvement" or "more news wanted."

I'm proposing this, as I'm not entirely sure what I can or should do when I come across a story that's just a copy-and-paste job, an advert, or an article that's gone beyond opinion into evangelism (for want of a better word).  I don't want to go running to the Editors, like the class creep ("please miss, such-and-such has done a bad story"), nor do I want to wear this hat like I'm some kind of sheriff, dispensing the law, when it comes to a writer's style, technique or subject-matter.

Rather than just emailing a couple of people, I thought I'd post this thought here to throw it open for discussion.  I'd especially like to hear from Wranglers and ex-wranglers'.

And, just to be clear, this isn't my application letter for the role of Editor, ok?

You do raise a lot of good Points here. I always felt we need 3 flags here or one that is somewhat more flexible then just GOOD STUF.......

I think I've figured out what I'm after: a flag that says "this isn't news" for stories that I don't even want to leave a comment on, lest they get bumped-up the rankings.  Examples:

http://my.nowpublic.com/culture/significance - just an image (and we've had a lot of those in recent weeks)

http://my.nowpublic.com/tech-biz/best-steam-irons-just-you - an advert, rather than news.

Hum, Well I second this.
