Plagiarism and Citing Sources
You think we're kidding, but we have zero-tolerance for plagiarism at NowPublic. What do we mean by this? Plagiarism is using previously published work (in print or electronic media) without giving credit to the original author. We recommend you quote no more than 50 words from a given source or authority using our highlight tool and try to keep the number of quotes per story to 3 if possible (we want to hear from you too!)
Paraphrasing information is an option if your rephrasing substantially differs from the original source, but credit must still be given where credit is due. The only exception to this is in using facts that are common knowledge.
We know everybody uses it, but Wikipedia is an anonymous and collectively-written site so no one person is accountable for the information you read there. Needless to say it's not Encyclopedia Britannica, BBC, and the Harvard library rolled into one. It may be a good starting point to inform your article, but do not use it as a primary source. Many articles there are factually incorrect and the site itself is a collection of sources, so you never know who, exactly, you're citing. If you wish to be the go-to expert on a subject, then cite references that supplement, but don't directly mirror, your own words and write articles that are themselves as comprehensive as possible. Bring something fresh to the table or at least that gathers great resources and places them in context.
Infringement Warning
NowPublic respects the intellectual property of others and we expect all users of the nowpublic.com website (the “Site”) to do the same. Allegedly infringing materials on the site may be removed or suspended at any time in accordance with the Terms of Service. Repeated infringement by a user of the Site may, in appropriate circumstances, result in a termination of that user’s access to and use of the Site.
