Michael Riggs - PublicReader - Seattle, US

Michael's current bio on file is very brief:  "I am a freelance writer/editor living and working in Seattle Washington. My interests are domestic and international politics, political technology, and censorship"

Justin Silles - babblingdweeb - Birmingham, US

Justin hails from Birmingham, MI and you may know him by his NP handle, Babblingdweeb. His resume is amazing - lots of tech and editorial skills - I am encouraging him to update his profile, but let me make do now with his own self-description:

"I've always had an interest in information and people. Additionally I always seemed to have a knack for critical thinking and problem solving -but not a specific trade or skill set to match. I have spent a lot of time learning the basics of many subjects and many areas of study just because I was curious. In my early twenties and even today I found that this knowledge has helped me communicate with people simply by always finding an analogy or metaphor to help answer someone's question or problem."

Denise Royal - Miami

Denise helped us enormously in setting up our Miami bureau, using her incredible news experience from her stints at Good Morning America, MSNBC, NBC News, and many others. She's got a personality that would light up the darkest room - and during a news crisis, manages to get herself at the front lines (the most recent being getting to the Hollywood hospital where Anna Nicole Smith recently died). Delighted to have Denise in our group.

Gabriel Stein  - gobzee  Stockholm

Gabriel (aka gobzee) holds down our "Stockholm Bureau" and is presently working in merchant banking. In his own words, "I have been freelance writing since the beginning of 2005. I have been published in The International Herald Tribune, The Star Ledger and Transitions Abroad, among others. I have also published a wide range of articles for various web publications in both the U.S. and Europe, from travel and sports to study guides and nutrition."  Gabriel is married with a young child and we look forward to his participation.

Jordan Yerman  - Vancouver

Jordan has a phenomenal background in film as a  screenwriter, producer, and actor. But that's apparently not enough - Jordan is also a novelist and wait? - what's this - another resume??? It now appears he also has a completely separate existence in computing and business management, with a post graduate degree from the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art.

Matt Eliason  -  Matte -  Toowoomba, Australia

Matt is our "Toowoomba Bureau Chief"  From his profile page:

Matt Eliason owns and runs a marketing agency in Queensland, Australia. He is a degree qualified journalist and has filled roles from grunt journalist to acting editor. Here's his own intro:

I'm Matte, Matt Eliason, from Australia. Yeah my profile if you look at it is slack - I'm mainly into marketing now, plenty of internet based stuff, but have experience as a journo, so tend to be skewed to news stuff rather than opinion. I really like first person reports and those where peopel can add new information or perspective to existing stories - this I feel is where the growth with AP lays. (That's my marketing hat talking!)

I have a huge distain for reposters of mainstream news who provide no additional input, comment etc - little more than spammers in my eyes.

Empoyment in media - I have worked on regional newspapers, been acting editior of a small newspaper, (with a 7 minute handover from the outgoing editor on the tarmac before they flew away... talk about dropped in the deep end...) and written freelance. During uni, any assignments would be sent to magazines as well, so the lecturer could say, that was a B+, and I could retort with "plus $300 from XYZ magazine!" So much of uni was paid for writing and taking photos for the articles.

I have interviewed some famous people, and in a role as a seniour govt media person written speeches for state ministers (parliament) plus all the stuff that goes with those sorts of jobs.

The future is really exciting an I am pleased to be part of the evolution of NP and citizen media.

Raj Taneja - Vancouver

Raj Taneja is a Canadian citizen journalist who lives between Vancouver, Canada and Tokyo, Japan. His main passion lies in social networking and growing social networks.

Robert Weitzel - Regina, Canada

Robert Weitzel - Regina, SK, Canada - Based in Regina but willing to work everywhere, Robert Weitzel is a freelance photographer specializing only in the creation of impactful images. Official photographer of the University of Regina Cougars Athletics and the
University of Regina Rams Football Club I am happiest with a camera in hand be that creating images of beautiful people, beautiful stuff or beautiful moments. Another passion is writing and if I could find a way to combine the two and travel the planet life would be grand. My sportsshooter.ca website, my other primary website, my sportsshooter.com member page. I am also a member of LightStalkers, a site plumb full of photo journalists who post their whereabouts utilizing GPS in order to make themselves available for assignments in a particular location and several other photographer-based member sites and organizations.

Ramon Thomas - South Africa  -

This is my first time on the forum. Briefly my background includes working in the Internet industry and later banking industries in a technical capacity. I don't come from a writing background but back in highschool (1992) I started a school newspaper which is still flourishing ;-) For the last two years I've been building up a reputation in South Africa as a online researcher, online behaviour expert. Chris Thomas - Killfile - Virginia US

"Killfile" Is actually an old college nickname.  My real name, Chris Thomas, guarantees some degree of anonymity, even here on the internet.  Turns out there are about a zillion people who are more important than me with the same name.  I really got into the social news scene with Slashdot back in my college days, posting ...

I run a my own tennis website BecomeATennisPlayer.com and music blog BritRockAtTheTop.com I'm also an editor for now public and love this great independent news site. My two main areas of interest are tennis and music. If I had to pick one, I would pick music because of the amount of concert reviews I cover. I look forward to continue writing concert reviews and sports articles. Please visit my websites and contact me about anything about sports and music.

Walyce Almeida - Walyce - Miami US

Communication has always been, as some would say, “my thing,” by nature and by culture.  From the time I would run away as a little girl from home only to be found conversing with a neighbor, to the time I hosted a radio program at the age of 14 and to the time I wrote award-winning articles for my college student newspaper.  God has guided me down this path of the curious and the communicative.  When I began Miami Dade College at the age of 15, the first thing I told my advisor was, “I want to report news. What do I major in for that?”  Three years later, I graduated with an Associate in Art’s degree in the beautiful field of journalism.  Then, I transferred to the university my eye had been on ever since I learned a Bachelor’s degree was necessary to work in the professional world.  Now, I am 19 and I have one year left of school.  My American side kept me dedicated to my career and my Brazilian ethnicity kept me passionate.  But most importantly, I thank God for opening many doors which cause my resume to be overloaded.

Mac Harris - Selectroclash - NYC

TECHNOLOGY IS MY GENERATION’S PORNOGRAPHY. WATCH AS MAN SURRENDERS THE WORLD TO THE MACHINES HE CREATED TO TAME IT. My name is Mac Harris. I routinely obsess over gadgets, vinyl releases, and the social impacts of our ever acc ..

Michelle Kearney - KEARNEY -   US

Hi - I am probably the least techically competent of the group coming out of the Stone Age. I am a Senior News Editor and Forum Moderator for CommonGroundCommonSense which grew out of the Kerry Campaign Internet Town Hall. I am also a foreign news editor for a think tank in Washington DC called the Committee for the Republic. My bio page will tell you the rest of my professional career. I tend to post mainly political news commentary in the fields of foreign affairs, national security, military matters, energy, and politics. Occasionally I will add something in the sports field like the NCAA March Madness, or add stuff to the Snuffysmith Biker Thread.  But I resort to that when I get saturated with the news, which can get depressing regardless of one's political affiliation.  I am pleased to be a part of this growing News is NowPublic.

Yellow,

I was recently given the promotion to News Wrangler and am excited to have an audience as large as Now Public for my writing. Recently I graduated with a double major in finance and economics and am currently in school to get my MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship. I have always loved politics and read many different sources everyday with the vast majority coming from the Internet. Personally, my favorite thing to do is smoke an Arturo Fuente Churchill while sipping on some Wild Turkey.

When I cover a story I try to be as honest as I can about what I think. My goal is to first show the facts then give my opinion on the subjects I cover. That being said I do try to promote a limited federal government with an emphasis on capitalism and freedom. I also have a blog whose title, ConservativeINC, aptly describes my point of view.

Beaulieu

I am a cycling blogger, covering bicycle advocacy and 'tarmac war' issues. I work in hospitality, completely unrelated to writing!

I ended up being involved in journalism when I did 'one of those Harvard tests' two years ago, and discovered that my skills lay in journalism.   Before this, I ended up doing secretarial work because it was the only thing offered to me at the time when I was younger. That test really struck a chord in me. Now, I am hell bent on making up for lost time!

I am now studying journalism online and English, in between my job. I discovered that two of my relatives were journalists, one of them a famous one who covered the slave trade in the US. She was an inspiration.

My background is farming, and when you have lived on a 'Funny Farm', for 30 years, you can't be 'normal'. Living on a farm is one long 'journalist' heaven'. However, most of those days are over and now 'I am learning to be Urban' and hence some of my stories are about the East End of London.

Other things I do is writing poetry, short stories, sketch, crafts, photography and campaign for green and mental health issues. I also enjoy cartooning - journalism through cartoons.

Hi gang,

I'm Mike.  I worked in the TV/Film business for 14 years (mostly as a Grip) but retired from that nonsense a year ago and now have a "proper job" with a desk, a stress-ball, and a pension. The last time I did any journalism (before NP) was writing the movie reviews for my University magazine, about a million years ago.

I'm not sure if I have one area that I like reporting on more than any other (although arts and science seem to crop up a lot).  If anything catches my eye as something I want to tell to others, I'll pass it on.  As I point out in my profile, I make no apologies for the eclectic range of stories I post.  Everything from International politics, to London Theatre, to badgers.

Yes, badgers - that was a front-page story, don't you know.

(BTW - if any American readers would like to say "Has anyone seen Mike Hawk" out loud, feel free.  I've lived with that name for years and the joke still makes me smile.  Before you blame my parents, it's not their fault: the joke doesn't work in a Geordie accent.)
