Nielsen Deems Latinos Important Enough To Include In Overall TV Ratings

Gee Thanks! Good to see that the guys at VNU left the Coffee Shops long enough to realize that there are a lot of Latinos watching TV. And go figure they are even watching it in english. I understand how being over in the Netherlands can be a bit confusing for the Nielsen Execs to get a good understanding of the Latino population in the US. Maybe they should come back and spend some time in the NY offices and speak with some of the Latino messengers that stop in. They would be shocked to learn that some of them even have color TVs. What next? Flat screens or possibly even HDTV!

After decades of being shunted to the sidelines, Spanish-language media outlets have now joined the big leagues of TV research.

Ratings giant Nielsen Media Research today plans to pull the plug on a separate service that it created 15 years ago to measure the size of Latino TV audiences. Latinos are now so important to the overall TV ratings picture that it would be misleading to relegate them to a separate system.
