The National Democratic Party (NDP) has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation, Bayo Ojo. Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/166/2007 filed on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Abuja Federal High Court also joined 17 other political parties as co-plaintiffs.The NDP suit is seeking an order to set aside “the entire set of elections comprised of elections into the Houses of Assembly of the various States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and of Governors of the said States conducted in defiance of the doctrine of lis pendens by the Defendant/Respondent on 14th of April 2007.”
The second relief sought by the NDP is an “order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC and its servants, agents and privies from proceeding with plans to conduct elections to the House of Representatives and Senate of the Federal Republic and the President of the said Federal Republic of Nigeria at any time until the final determination of the substantive issues in this suit.”

So, as elections are about to begin, the coalition challenging the
incumbent is fracturing; candidates were going to pull out but did not.
In the balance hangs the democratic future of the most populous nation
in Africa... This is very exciting; thanks for these updates, Ego!
Good stuff.

Thank you. There is also some news filtering in that one of the presidential candidates (a religiously devout muslim and Sharia advocate)has flooded the Northern part of our country with religious fundamentalists who are affiliated with Al Qaeda somewhat, preparatory to unleashing mayhem if things don't work out his way tomorrow. This bunch of fanatics have already razed several police stations to the ground and driven out residents from various villages and communities in Kano and neighboring states.
In the Niger Delta region, homes of prominent politicians are being sacked and ransacked for voting materials believed to be hidden there. It's some serious warfare in Bayelsa state between the army and militants which is still raging as I write. It was reported by BBC but the intensity of the confrontation has been played down for obvious reasons. The local press cannot comment on this development because there is no official release issued by the security services and to comment on same would be to open oneself up to allegations of incitement and even perhaps conspiracy to derail our political transition.
In the South West of the country the army has been called out and one state, Ekiti, is still under emergency rule. My own home state is smoldering and getting just about set to erupt tomorrow. Andy Uba, who is better known as the president's Labrador and ladies man has been declared winner of the gubernatorial elections and he won with a vote count that exceeded the number of registered votes for the entire state! I will be posting that story shortly, its on record. Keeping one's fingers crossed is indeed the word, Jordan.

This story continues to develop.
I think this is an important story and would benefit from other NowPublic contributors working on it. Anyone who comes up with new stuff, let us know. There's been another hostage situation in the US, but the Nigerian election story continues...
I've flagged it as News Wanted and invite others in relevant locations to look for more evidence.
