Nigeria Polls: Stay at home!
Nigeria Labour Congress-led labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), yesterday re-affirmed its resolve to enforce the stay-at-home protest against the out-come of the last April polls, saying its allies across the country have been fully mobilised to ensure maximum impact. The coalition, while ruling out any direct confrontation with security agencies, advised all foreigners to adhere strictly to the sit-at-home directive in their own interests.
In a joint statement read by the NLC President Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, the coalition said the re-affirmation is sequel to last Tuesday's meeting of the groups in Lagos, where they reviewed and perfected strategies to enforce the campaign.
"After extensive deliberations and consultations with its allies across the country, the decision was that this stay-at-home protest must be enforced in spite of threats by government and its hangers-on," he said, adding that the protest has been made necessary by the "willful destruction of democratic culture and institutions, the imposition of tyranny of a few, the relentless assault on the people's values and culture, the corruption of the system and the disgraceful and unacceptable conduct of the 2007 general elections.
