Fighting in the Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon eased Monday evening after Palestinian militants and the Lebanese military appeared to have reached an unofficial ceasefire.
The battle, which began as the military tried to root out the Fatah Islam group from the camp, killed about 50 fighters and an unknown number of civilians over two days. But late Monday, a spokesman for the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad said the militants had agreed to move away from the Lebanese troops. A Lebanese officer said the military will not shoot unless it was fired at.
